The rapidity of technological advancements in the fast-paced digital entertainment industry plays an important part of the changing scene of visual communication, including design disciplines such as animation and video game design. Recognising the need to keep pace with the rapidly evolving design environment, the Diploma in Animation & Game Design programme aims to provide students with an industry-focused learning platform to establish a solid foundation in animation and game media design.

The curriculum of the programme will be delivered in a mix of teaching strategies ranging from lectures and seminars to tutorials and technical demonstrations. Complemented with a comprehensive assessment framework, the pedagogic approach of the programme provides students with a positive learning experience that meets the intended learning objectives and outcomes.

Through practical-based modules in the programme, students will be introduced to a wide range of design concepts and creative problem-solving techniques involving strategic application of motion elements and animation principles. Animation design is one of the most exciting design disciplines in the creative industries. Its applications, as standalone solutions or parts of an integrated design, cover wide areas of visual communication and digital media including film and television programmes, game arts and trailers, interactive content for web and mobile apps, animated simulations for promotional and educational purposes, etc. Leveraging on the advanced technology in animation authoring tools, production techniques and media channels, the underpinnings of animation design revolve around the conceptualisation and production of engaging animated visual sequence to innovate visual design solutions to real-world issues and needs.

Today, the animation design industry is increasingly competitive and ever-evolving with technological advancements. In view of this, the Advanced Diploma in Animation Design programme is structured with emphasis on equipping students with industry-focused design knowledge and skill sets, as well as keeping them closely in touch with the technological development relevant to animation design.
