Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) International Design Competition 2023/24

Raffles Fashion Designer Sonpavorapong SASIPIM Wins SDC International Design Competition 2023/24

Raffles Fashion Designer Sonpavorapong SASIPIM, also known as Hunny, took over the baton from fellow schoolmate Verina LIE, winner of Society of Colourists and Dyers (SDC) Award 2023, to win both the Singapore and International awards at this year’s competition.

Besides being the second awards won by Raffles Fashion Designers consecutively, this year’s competition, which took place in York, United Kingdom, also marked SDC’s 140th anniversary and the 100th year of the Colour Index™.

Hunny’s winning design, a ready-to-wear capsule collection for women, was inspired by the theme of symbiosis in nature. The collection stands out for its innovative use of sustainable colour, with dyes extracted from Actinobacteria found in soil. This eco-friendly process adds value to agricultural waste while ensuring that the dyes remain safe for human skin after undergoing an ethanol treatment.

Congratulations to Hunny for your achievement!

Far East Gems Collaboration

Raffles Jewellery Designers Bridge Art And Gems: A Collaboration With The Gem Museum

16 Raffles Jewellery Designers participated in designing for THE GEM CAPITAL with the theme, Renaissance: Rebirth of Creativity. The GEM Museum founder, Mr. TAY Kunming, generously provided the students with exceptional natural gemstones to inspire their work, and personally mentored them to enhance their designs. Some students utilised 3D printing technology to bring their visions to life, while others used the technique of wax carving to handcraft their designs.

Through this exhibition, Raffles Jewellery Designers got to apply their design skills for a good cause as a portion of the sales proceeds was donated to the Singapore Christian Home and Safe Place, supporting the community by Design.
